Random Voice Call With Strangers: No Camera Needed
Strangerly Team · · 3 min read
Video chat gets all the attention, but a lot of people would rather not be on camera with a stranger — at least not at first. Maybe you are in a hostel room, maybe it is late, maybe you just do not feel like being looked at. Random voice call is for that: matched 1-to-1 with a stranger in seconds, talking with your voice only, camera off the whole time.
Why voice is easier than video
- Nobody judges your face, your room or your lighting. The conversation is just the conversation.
- It is less awkward to start. Silence on video feels long; on voice it feels like thinking.
- You can do something else. Walk, cook, lie down. Voice does not need you to sit facing a screen.
- It is lighter on data than video — useful on a daily mobile pack.
- There is no image of you to screenshot. For many people that alone is the reason.
How it works on strangerly
- Open strangerly.in/voice-chat or the Android app.
- Confirm you are 18 or over.
- Pick Voice and allow the microphone. The call itself is audio only — no video is sent.
- You are matched with someone who also chose voice. Talk, or skip to the next person.
There is no account, so there is nothing to sign up for and nothing to delete later. Neither side sees a phone number, name or social handle — only an anonymous nickname.
Match with people who speak your language
A voice call goes better when you are not both struggling in a second language. Choose a language preference — Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Gujarati, Bengali, English and more — and you are matched with people who chose the same one first. Add interests too, and people with more in common are ranked higher.
If nobody matching your preferences is waiting, the search widens after a few seconds instead of leaving you stuck, and the app tells you it did.
Fill the gaps with a game
Every chat has live games built in: Tic-Tac-Toe, Connect Four, Rock-Paper-Scissors and a word-guessing game. On voice they work especially well — you play, you talk about the game, and the conversation starts itself. Games to play with a stranger.
Keep the call safe
Voice feels more private than video, which is exactly why people overshare on it. A few habits:
- Do not say your full name, college, workplace, area or phone number.
- Do not move to WhatsApp or Instagram with someone you met five minutes ago.
- If someone pushes you to switch to video, or asks for money for any reason, end the call.
- Use report and block — they are one tap away during every call, and a blocked person will not be matched with you again.
More in how to stay safe on random video chat — nearly all of it applies to voice too.
Liked them? Keep in touch
If you click with someone, you can both tap Keep in touch to become friends and call each other again later — still no numbers exchanged, and only if you both agree. How Keep in touch works.
Prefer typing? There is a text chat with no camera guide as well. Ready to talk? Start a random voice call — free, no login, 18+ only.
Frequently asked questions
Can I talk to strangers by voice without video?
Yes. strangerly.in has a voice-only mode: you are matched 1-to-1 with a random stranger and talk with your microphone only. No video is sent during the call.
Is random voice call free?
Yes. Voice chat on strangerly.in is free with no account, email or phone number. Optional paid perks exist, but talking is free.
Can the other person see my phone number in a voice call?
No. It is a browser or in-app call, not a phone call. Neither side sees a number, a name or an account — only an anonymous nickname.
Does voice chat use a lot of mobile data?
Much less than video. A voice call carries audio only, so it is a good choice on a limited daily data pack.
