Video chat with strangers, face to face
Press Start and strangerly.in matches you 1-to-1 with a random stranger for a live video call — in the browser or the Android app. It is free, there is no account to create, and it is only for adults 18+.
Free · No sign-up · 18+ only
How video chat works
- 1
Allow camera and mic
Your browser asks once. The call is set up directly between the two devices (WebRTC) wherever the network allows.
- 2
Get matched
You are paired with one person who is online right now. Shared interests and languages are tried first for a few seconds.
- 3
Reveal when ready
New matches start blurred. Tap to reveal — or let it reveal on its own after a few seconds, unless you switched that off.
- 4
Talk, play or move on
Open a game on a shared board, tap Keep in touch if you click, or press Next for someone new.
What random video chat is good for
Video is the closest thing to meeting someone in person: you see their reaction, hear their tone and know within seconds whether the conversation has legs. It suits practising a language with a native speaker, meeting people from another city or country, or just a few minutes of conversation with someone new.
Every chat is 1-to-1. There is no public room, no feed to scroll and no profile to build — just the person in front of you, until one of you presses Next.
Video chat with strangers near you
Want to meet someone in your own city? Pick a distance — within 10 km or within 50 km — before you start, and strangerly tries to match you with people nearby first. It is free and completely optional.
Your exact location is never shared. It is rounded on your device to a grid about 1.1 km across before anything is sent, and the other person only ever sees a rough band such as "~5 km" — never a direction or a map. Distance is a soft preference: if nobody nearby is online, it is relaxed after about 20 seconds so you are not left waiting, and the app tells you when that happens. Say no to the location prompt and everything else still works.
Safety on video
Video puts the most of you on screen, so it has the most protection built in:
- Blur new matches is on by default — you choose when to see a stranger, and you can turn it off in settings.
- Report or block in one tap. Reports are anonymous, and a blocked person is not matched with you again.
- 18+ only: you confirm your age before your first chat.
- An optional on-device AI estimate of age and gender runs entirely on your device; the camera feed is never uploaded for it. It is an estimate, not an identity check.
Tips for a better video chat
- Check what is behind you before you turn the camera on — a parcel label, a uniform or a recognisable window says more than you think.
- Open with something concrete about what you can see or hear, not "hi, where are you from".
- If the talk stalls, start a game. A shared Connect Four board carries a conversation further than another question.
- Never move to another app because someone asks, and never send money. Report and move on.
Prefer another way to talk? voice chat or text chat. Full rules are on the safety page.
Video chat FAQ
Is strangerly video chat free?
Yes. Random video chat is free with no sign-up. Two optional paid perks exist — Fast Skip and Gender Filter — but you never need them to chat.
Can I video chat with strangers near me?
Yes. Choose within 10 km or within 50 km before you start and strangerly tries to match you with someone nearby. Your location is rounded on your device to about 1.1 km and the other person only sees a rough distance such as "~5 km".
Will the other person see me straight away?
Each new video match starts blurred until it is revealed — by a tap, or automatically after a few seconds unless you turn auto-reveal off. You can switch blurring off entirely in settings.
Do I need to download anything?
No. Video chat works in any modern browser with a camera and microphone. There is also an Android app on Google Play if you prefer.
What happens if someone behaves badly?
Tap report or block — it takes one tap and reports are anonymous. A blocked person is not matched with you again, and reports are reviewed against our community guidelines.
