How voice chat works
- 1
Allow the microphone
Only the mic is requested in voice mode. Your camera stays off the whole time.
- 2
Pick a language
Add Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Gujarati, Bengali or another language tag and you are matched with people who chose it first.
- 3
Talk
You hear each other live. There is no video to worry about and nothing about how you look.
- 4
Stay or skip
Play a game while you talk, tap Keep in touch if you click, or press Next.
Why choose voice over video
Voice is the middle ground. It is warmer than typing — you hear laughter, accents and hesitation — but nobody sees your face, your room or what you are wearing. That makes it easy to chat from bed, on a walk or anywhere a camera would be awkward.
It is also lighter on data than video, so it holds up better on a patchy mobile connection.
Talk in your own language
Language tags work like interests: pick Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Gujarati, Marathi, Kannada, Bengali, Malayalam, Punjabi, Urdu or English, and strangerly ranks people who chose the same language first. If nobody who picked it is online, you are still matched after a few seconds rather than left waiting — so it never hurts to ask "Hindi chalega?" in your first sentence.
Safety on voice chat
Your voice is still personal information. A few habits keep it that way:
- Do not say your full name, school, workplace or area out loud — background noise can give away more than you expect.
- Report or block in one tap. Reports are anonymous, and a blocked person is not matched with you again.
- 18+ only: you confirm your age before your first chat.
- If someone pushes you to switch to WhatsApp or another app, treat it as a warning sign, not a compliment.
Tips for a good voice conversation
- Use earphones. It cuts echo for the other person and keeps the conversation private on your side.
- Silence is fine for a second or two — it is not a dropped call. Ask an open question and let them answer.
- When the talk runs dry, play Rock-Paper-Scissors or Word Guess together without leaving the call.
Prefer another way to talk? video chat or text chat. Full rules are on the safety page.
Voice chat FAQ
Can I voice chat with strangers without showing my face?
Yes. Voice mode only uses your microphone — the camera is never turned on, so the other person hears you but never sees you.
Is voice chat on strangerly free?
Yes, voice chat is free with no account, email or phone number. Optional paid perks (Fast Skip and Gender Filter) are never required.
Can I find people who speak my language?
Yes. Pick a language tag such as Hindi, Tamil or Gujarati and people who chose the same language are matched with you first. If nobody is available, you are matched with someone else after a few seconds.
